Well, despite all the predictions of a runaway win for Brokeback Mountain, that never really happened.

I won’t list every category winner here (the BBC have already done that) – but it’s nice to see a number of great films getting recognition (although “Best Animated Feature” getting yet another Oscar for Nick Park was never in doubt) – King Kong of course swept the Sound and Visual Effects categories, and it was good to see a couple of more mainstream movies get some credit too – like the makeup award for Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

This years Oscars clearly show that 2005 was a great year for film, with many great movies sharing the honours – let’s hope 2006 has the quality to match!
