Taken by Adrian Pingstone in September 2003 and placed in the public domain.Today, the historic Transporter Bridge in Newport celebrates 100 years of service – despite having a new, 4 lane road bridge a few hundred yards further up the river, many people still choose to pay their 50p toll to cross the river Usk on the suspended platform of the bridge.

  1. the transporter bridge is occasionally opened by a group of supporters to any members of the public mad enough to pay for the privilege of climbing up and across the high level open mesh walkway. I did the climb about 5 years ago and my knees haven’t stopped knocking yet, you can buy a certificate to say you did it but not sure if I want a reminder!
